what is yoga?
You bend. You sweat. You breathe. You feel great. Why? That’s just part of the magic of yoga. In truth, there is more to yoga than meets the eye. A Sanskrit word meaning union or integration, yoga is the art of integrating all the conflicting aspects of your self into the peace and ease of oneness and clarity. It’s a profound and moving journey unlocking the secrets to everlasting happiness. While conventionally practiced in this country as a stretching-based exercise, the authentic practice of this ancient science is much more complex—and rewarding. It’s a practice that when skillfully applied can transform virtually every aspect of your life. And helping you to do just that is what we at Yoga Pura are all about. A path to enlightenment that winds back 5,000 years to its origins in India, yoga is as much about working with your mind as it is about working your body. Yes, it promotes physical fitness, weight loss, and greater health and vitality, to be sure. But the real promise of yoga is an overall ease and sense of well-being that touches every part of our lives. It gives us the strength and clarity to deal with whatever challenges come our way. In practice, yoga can take many forms. From the serene seat of meditation to the intense, athletic workout of a power class, yoga has something to offer everyone. Each class is designed to build your strength and flexibility, while simultaneously inspiring peace and tranquility. Classes focus on you—working through a series of postures, called asanas, performed either sitting, standing, or lying down, with concentration on alignment and breathing. There is no pressure or competition to push yourself into a pose. Instead, what you can do is what you should do. At Yoga Pura we offer a variety of yoga styles. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced practitioner, whether you want a gentle or a vigorous practice, we have a class for you. See our class descriptions for more information, or simply ask us for our recommendation on which class is right for you. We’re always glad to help. So, what are you waiting for? Come to Yoga Pura.
